5. Custom Fields

Custom Fields can be created, and are entirely List Specific.

Please see below for specific guidance on setting up Custom Fields to be used in Segmenting or Automation.

Tag below is the equivalent of a Shortcut Code in SR V2 – and HAS to be all Uppercase characters.

The right hand column below – “Sort Order” gives the facility for you to determine the order in which the fields will be displayed, left to right, in Lists > Your List > Subscribers. If you have a lot of fields they may well extend off screen to the right. Provided you click on the page once, the right left keys will move you across the page which is far easier/quicker than scrolling down to find the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the page.

There is no limit to how many Custom Fields you can create for any one List – they are List specific NOT SR User Account specific as was the case in SR V2. The name and Tag must obviously be unique for each Custom Field. Custom Fields are of course included in the Subscribe Form (Optin Form) unless set as “Hidden” instead of “Visible” which is the default.

To accommodate Social Media Demographic Data the following fields are automatically added to all new Lists by default, sorted in this order:-

Email Address
First Name
Last Name
Address1
Address2
City
State
Country
Age
Gender

When creating a Custom Field that will be used for searching on for Segmenting or Automation it is ESSENTIAL that it is set up with a default value as the Search function TOTALLY ignores blank fields – SO – if you want to search for just those who DID NOT Open a Campaign you will have to set the Automation to automatically add “Yes” to a hidden field. If you have not set a default of “No” then those who DID NOT Open the Campaign will have a blank field. Searching on – “Is Not Yes” will not find any subscriber records where that field is blank as the search function does not recognise blank fields.

Therefore when initially setting up that Custom Field it HAS to be done as below, and at the time you create the Custom Field – you cannot go back and change the settings later.

Once set up as above and Saved Changes then one can change the Visibility Setting to “Hidden” as you do not want such fields to be visible on a Subscribe Form.

Dropdown List fields are easily set up with as many choices as you require. Only one option can be selected by the User.

With a Multiselect Field you can have as many options as you want, and the User can select as many as they choose to.

The resulting Form includes a Dropdown List and a Multiselect Field.

And the Subscriber Record reflects the data entered and choices made. By using Dropdown Lists and Multiselect Fileds you retain control over what data can be entered, which is vital if you are to avoid too many variables when using the data to create Segments of your Lists.
